Our first lesson for DES210- Theatre and TV Practice was confusing, with being given schedules and teams that I did not quite know what they were for. What I did pick up was that we would be producing 6 shows for 'Secret Life of Us' and collaborate with the second year proddies and actors. The second lesson cleared things up considerably for me.
We have divided the class into two groups of five (plus Gab hence one group of six). Each group will be responsible for the designs for three shows each, and each group member will be given a certain design role. Essentially the design groups will have the final say on the design aspects of each show so as to speed up the process.
Our groups are:
TEAM ALPHA (shows: 2, 4 and 6)
1. Jeff 2. Lauren 3. Peri 4. Maddy 5. Sam
TEAM BETA (shows: 1, 3 and 5)
1. Belinda 2. Liam 3. Michaela 4. Laura 5. Kerri (me)
Team Beta have assigned different roles to each member for each of our three shows (shows 1, 3 and 5) they are as follows:
SHOW ONE
Set Designer- Liam
Set Dresser- Michaela
Costume- Kerri
Props- Belinda
Standby- Laura
SHOW TWO
Set Designer- Michaela
Set Dresser- Laura
Costume- Belinda
Props- Liam
Standby- Kerri
SHOW THREE
Set Designer- Belinda
Set Dresser- Kerri
Costumes- Michaela
Props- Laura
Standby- Liam
I am really happy with how this roster worked out as I am doing my top two preferences; costume and set dresser.
We have started throwing a few ideas in for the set, which will be in a bar. We need to decide on what type of bar we want to set our shows in. To reduce the work load and cost, each show will basically be the same set ie flats although we will need to modify it for each show for variety, this could just mean changing the paint colour, rearranging furniture and dressing the set differently.
We have not yet received the script, so the set designing cannot fully begin although we have decided to come up with our own possibilities and meet up next Thursday 5th March just to get the ball rolling.
One possible idea is to use a pool table!!!!
